Certified Handling Systems proudly represents nearly 55 years of deep-rooted experience, relationships working with the most respected manufacturers, and the ability to offer our clients competitive pricing.

In 1967, our founder, a then 28-year-old Marilyn Millet, applied for a local credit union loan to open a business as a tool supplier.

Her initial application was declined, as a male figure was required to co-sign on the business loan.

However, with help from her then-boyfriend and parents, she borrowed enough money to finance her dream of opening a business, repaying them in 60 days.

Marilyn acknowledged the rhetoric and resistance she faced but chose to use it as inspiration to build a business.

After a few years in business, Marilyn noticed the void for Material Handling supply companies in Salt Lake City, Utah, and pivoted to create what is now Certified Handling Systems.

In 1973, Marilyn's son, Curtis Ward, created an Installation Company, CW Installations which was later merged into Certified Handling Systems.

Curtis now proudly leads Certified's Operations and Systems Integration divisions.

Our business still operates as family-owned nearly 55 years later.

Our founder, Marilyn, passed, on September 7th, 2021.

Marilyn was recognized as one of the most influential female business owners in this state’s history while actively utilizing her adversaries to advocate for various philanthropic causes throughout her life. She was dedicated to the work behind equal rights for minorities, women's equality and representation, sponsorships for domestic abuse survivors, and combating child hunger.

Marilyn was elected and successfully served as the Salt Lake Council of Women President, Governor of Soroptimist Rocky Mountain Region, and President of Soroptimist of Salt Lake. She was awarded the 2003 YWCA Outstanding Achievement Award and the 2006 Athena Award for her community service, mentorship, and professional leadership accomplishments.
